botany, cardigans, and golden...

..

First pages from Chloe's botany main lesson book.

She is feeling like she can't draw or write well enough with her hand injury but I think she did beautifully. For this reason though we are taking it a little bit slow.

Rather than Charles Kovacs Botany book we are mostly using The Living World of the Plants by Dr. Gerbert Grohman. I really like the Kovacs book, but I really love The Living World of the Plants. And Chloe agrees, so that is our focus. I also have the Christopherus Botany lesson guide, which we are not exactly following but provides good inspiration for my lesson planning.

And please excuse my not great photos. Jason has been taking the camera with him most days, he has been out bow hunting this month... (Yep, from 17 years as vegans, to not even vegetarians and hunting!) So I tried to take a few quick pictures before he left today, with very poor lighting...

Some Tasha Tudor book love. Goodness she makes me happy.
I was recently gifted two vintage books illustrated by Tasha Tudor, maybe I can share pics of them soon...

One of my favorite trees at the moment...

And the cardigan! So close to finished! So not perfect, but so perfectly fine to me. I feel like I have learned so much knitting this first sweater. I intend to go finish that other sleeve right now (yes Melanie, I know I have been saying that for a few days now...) and hopefully by the end of the week I will be casting on the next cardigan for Chessa.

With the days turning cooler I have been wishing I could just sit and knit all day long, perhaps outside beneath some of those beautiful golden trees...

Oh Renee! I miss you so (and owe you an e-mail - perhaps a phone call will have to happen and diapers oh yes they sound lovely <3). That cardigan, it will be so perfect, she'll love it.
You crack me up with the hunting comment. I respect you guys so much for it all <3 <3 <3

Dear Renee...Gasp ~ your sweater is beautiful. Nicely done for the first sweater ever! I just cast on last week for my biggest boy's, so we will be knitting them together afterall. Funny about the bow hunting. I was vegetarian for 17 years, 7 of them as vegan. Then I got pregnant and that was that! We've had a few wild chickens from Josh's slingshot, but he hasn't done too much hunting, though he's talked about it. I hope Chloe's hand is feeling better...I'd love an update! I'm also having some embroidery thoughts, and must chat with you soon!

I think her work looks lovely. :) When I was looking at it I was actually hoping my son's writing might look that nice by the time he is in 4th grade.

I love the cardi! I am hooked on knitting sweaters, and like you I wish I could just sit around and knit all day.

I also had to chuckle at the hunting thing...I was a vegetarian for 20 years...and now I am the connoisseur of the well-marinated London Broil!

Oh to be teaching a girl, lol! We are doing the same material with my son, and oh, my, even with a sore hand Chloe's writing is leaps and bounds neater than my poor boy's. He has lots of energy, not so much patience for writing. I will try not to compare any more :)
So fun though, to see Chloe's work. It is always so lovely :)

that cardigan is STUNNING - I love the colour and the raglan sleeves are perfect. You must be super proud of yourself (my first cardi for my daughter was dreadful and had to be ripped out... the subsequent ones haven't been too much better on close inspection!).

My man is out hunting archery too right now. Such an exciting time. We're studying plants in our homeschool co-op right now too. Let me know how Jason does with his bow.

XO,
Rachel

Whoa! Vegan to hunter, huh? Sounds worthy of it's own blog post. You guys all look happy and nourished...

What a lovely page your daughter made for the botany study. We've begun regular nature walks with my children - it's been a great experience and my only regret is not having started them sooner.
