bagels and pretzels and book winner...

So first of all, I am very happy to announce that the giveaway winner is Wabi-Sabi Wanderings.

I know she will enjoy this special book with her family, and I am excited to imagine something I have made finding a place in her beautiful home!

And now just a couple quick questions for you all if you don't mind...

I need to make bagels. I have made them only twice before. The first time they came out really good, but that was more than a decade ago and I don't remember much about it. The second time was last year, it seemed to take the entire day, and it was not good. It may be the only time I have ever made something entirely inedible. I sure did make a nice big mess though!

So anyone have a good bagel recipe that will definitely work? If it uses some whole wheat flour in addition to white flour then that would be especially good.

I also want to try the pretzel recipe in the Waldorf Kindergarten Snack Book. Have any of you made that recipe before? I am mostly just wondering how many pretzels I should be dividing the dough into, or how big they should be? We have never baked pretzels before...

Of course the Five Little Peppers had many exciting baking adventures!

Thanks so much to everyone who entered the giveaway, it was quite exciting. Some of you have blogs that are new to me and I look forward to visiting soon!

I hope you are all having a very nice beginning to your week. Wishing you many beautiful days!

Hi Renee!
I make bagels and they come out divine- I can email you the recipe if you'd like. :)
Also, we regularly make the pretzels from the Waldorf K Snack book- we do have wheat half white (or have spelt half white) and we divide it into about 12 ptretzels. :)

Congratulations to the lucky winner of your giveaway!

Yippee! I am beyond delighted to see that I'm the giveaway winner! And its my first giveaway win, too :-) It's funny, something or other had me thinking of your beautiful vintage feedsack fabric this morning (I didn't realize that it was the giveaway day), so I just about fell off of my seat when I hopped on the computer for my morning read and saw who the winner was. I'm just preparing to head on out to a day-long work meeting, and you've already dissolved any sense of weariness :-)

I can't wait to read that book with my crew of 5!

In warm appreciation...

I was so excited about the giveaway, that I forgot to comment on your questions. Or perhaps that is because I don't actually have any bagel-making experience. It is on the to-do list, though, so I hope to hear how your next attempt goes!

I will email you my contact information later today.

Still dancing with delight...

Oh yes, you actually have your very own Five Little Peppers!

Ha ha Melanie, I almost addressed my questions specifically to you, cause I know you would be the one to reply :) I wasn't sure if you had the Waldorf snack book though. Yes, please do send bagel recipe! No rush though, hopefully in a couple days we will be off camping deep in the forest, so bagel making will have to wait just a little while.

i just got the book that heather recommends, healthy bread in five minutes a day. there is a bagel recipe in there. obviously, i have not tried it, but i am happy to send it to you, if you wish.

i have made the pretzels from the kindy book before but it has been a while and i have no idea how many pretzels we got out of it. so i'm no help there. ;)

I want to say that there is a really good bagel recipe in the Healthy Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day book, or in the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes a day one. I will check it out and let you know :)

Let us know what recipe you choose & how it goes! :) I've always wanted to try bagels. My ex was a baker and made them every morning for the local bagel shop but he had a lot of fancy equipment and a huge kitchen to work in. I'm curious of how they turn ou at home.

Funny I was just looking up bagel recipes and was thinking about trying these, since we are gluten free (and i have really liked other recipes i have tried on the Spunky Coconut:

I will let you know how they turn out :)
