Advent Sunday and St. Lucia

...

We sure have been enjoying our simple advent days.

This Sunday the animals gathered around our spiral. I did actually make one needle felted sheep, but it was barely finished late the night before and I decided it was probably best to stick with my plan of making the animals next year. So for now we added as many of our wooden animals as we could fit and I really like the look of it, quite festive!

Much of our Sunday was occupied by St. Lucia preparations. Chloe made the Lucia buns all by herself. I should have taken a picture of them, so pretty with their nice "S" shape.

A sweet moment while Chloe was trying on her Lucia gown.

And the beautiful Lucia child who greeted us this morning. Thankfully not quite as early as last year...

We made the St. Lucia crown last year. This year I thought I might make Chessa a little star crown or wand, so she could be a Star Child accompanying Lucia. But Chloe really wanted the morning to be a surprise for everyone so she convinced Chessa to stay in bed with us while she made tea and set the table with the buns. (She cleaned the kitchen counters too, she knows that is always the first morning chore...) I guess I didn't really have the time to make a star crown anyhow, definitely next year though.

I would love to hear about any of the holiday festivities happening in your home these days??

Oh Renee, what fun for you all! I love the effort you put into this festival for your family. Perhaps I will try to incorporate it next year, though my children are all under the age of 5 and I know this is more of a 10 year old festival celebrated in the schools. What do you think?
Also, I so enjoy seeing the beautiful handmade clothing your girls wear. Indeed, I would love to chat about embroidery with you...and making lovely clothing. Now I am so curious what clothes you make for yourself. Or your husband.
Have a wonderful week of busy-ness in crafting and sewing and knitting.

Oh how lovely!!!! What a nice peaceful Lucia festival. Your daughter is radiant.
We are having Santa Lucia at our school today since yesterday was a snow day. The students are all dressed up and handing out buns to all the other classes. They are so excited and look so beautiful.
many blessings, Angie

Dear Renee, the girls seemed to have grown so much since I last saw you. Look how precious they are cuddled up together, such a beautiful photo. Chloe's radiant smile, she's so proud to have made those buns - that radiance must have followed with her wonderful presence dressed in her beautiful gown displaying peace and innocence.

Your last post with the photo of your granddad is so sweet, so precious. How I miss my grandparents.. I long to fly over to Zimbabwe just so my children can feel their warmth. They are very old now, maybe next year - it's so far for the children to go.

Thinking of you and the family... sending you much love

Renee,
Such fun times in your house!
I love thinking about the original Scandinavian celebrations of St. Lucia - girls walking around town with real burning candles on their heads! Maybe next year for Chloe. :)
