pinafore love ~ my storybook girl

..
My oldest child has just turned 11. Oh my goodness, my dear sweet girl.

And this sweet girl of mine surely needed a pinafore...

So I made one for her.

It just so happened that there was some "storybook apron" sewing going on, and as I finished up this pinafore I realized I could contribute...

Our beautiful children's books are always inspiring me.

When Chloe received the pinafore she exclaimed, "You made me a Five Little Peppers pinafore!"

Vintage fairy tale illustrations always offer inspiration...

Elsa Beskow books are adored around here...

Tasha Tudor inspires us in so very many ways!

Vintage green linen..

all kinds of pleats..

And a little hand embroidery.

For this beautiful person who inspires me so much every single day!

Oh! Funny you posted the Emily and Daisy pics, I am hoping to make C and K matching dresses and pinafores like Emily's.

Dear Renee...This is just wonderful!!! You know I just love what you make for your girls to wear! I also am so inspired by the clothing from books and you included many of them here. And now I am inspired by the ones I had not seen before. I also love love love the clothing illustrated in any Daniela Drescher books...do you know them? Your girl does indeed look like she belongs in a storybook...one that I'd love to read again and again. Beautiful work!

Oh Renee, beautiful, beautiful girl! Her light shines all the way over to here! What a precious jewel she is, she'll be your companion all your lives together! Of course I feel teary eyed as I think of Ella, because I know just what it is to have such a girl!
You and I love the same types of books and illustrations- I so badly want to dress like that myself, and sometimes I sort of do and feel awesome about it, though I may look odd. :) Ella too loves pinafores, and has wanted one for a long while. I tried one last year that was a flop- yours is just perfect.
Happy,Happy Birthday!

WHat a beautiful mama made. She looks picture perfect in it. I always wanted a pinafore when I was little, like Anne of Green Gables. My Nanna made me an apron for a costume for Little HOuse on the prairie one year and I wore it around the house for years afterwards - but I always insisted it wasn't a proper one because it didn't wrap round properly. Somehow I never managed to convey my vision for it to her. Pity we can't time travel - I could have shown her this. Perfect.

Oh my God!! SO gorgeous! I love vintage children books and Elsa Beskow's clothings are a dream! I would love to be as good a seamstress as you (and enjoy it as much as you do to sew!).

Oh my goodness, Renee! The pinafore is just brilliant. I especially love the embroidery. How special for your daughter. My mother made me one when I was the exact same age and I still remember how excited I was. Yay for Eleven years!!! Happy Birthday to you both!!

What a lovely pinafore! We find inspiration in many of the same books. I would love to make my little girl a pinafore in the style of those in Tasha Tudor's books. Alas, I am a novice seamstress!

Found you through Small Things...and I will be back!

I love the pinafore! And what I love most is how she loves it. As they are getting older, Kayla will be 11 in October, I am appreciating things like this that would be lost without homeschooling. These girls would be all grown up and liking much different things. Glad to see you and fam are doing well!
